INTRODUCTION OF CIVICS SUBJECT AND WAYS OF ASSESSING STUDENT ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE IN THE UK’S CURRICULUM

Summary: 
Civic education was introduced in the form of a subject in 2002 and became a compulsory subject in 2014 in stages 3 and 4 (ages 11-16) in the national curriculum of the United Kingdom. In the UK’s curriculum, the purpose of Citizenship is to help students learn about political processes, about democracy, to imbue national values, commitment to the homeland. Students are also trained in cultural knowledge, social background. The Citizenship curriculum of the UK focuses on the way in which the community participates in the teaching and learning process of civic education in schools and enhances student engagement with the community. The article addresses the issues of: 1) The history of civic education in the form of a subject; 2) The purpose and method of assessing students in Civic Education in UK; 3) How to distribute the grade to assess the student learning outcomes in the Citizenship Phase 3 (11-14 -year olds)
