ENHANCING BASIC MATHEMATICAL COGNITIVE SKILLS TO PREPARE HUMAN RESOURCES FOR THE KNOWLEDGE-BASED ECONOMY IN VIETNAM

Summary: 
The article analyses lessons learnt from the PISA 2012 and 2015 in terms of Maths teaching at lower secondary level in Vietnam. In author’s opinion, secondary students in Vietnam are proven to be competent in mastering basic mathematical cognitive skills in order to solve contextualized practical problem. Maths teachers in Vietnam have solid mathematical knowledge and know how to develop mathematical thinking for students. From the world's perspective, the author describes, demonstrates, provides reliable data to analyze the potential of Vietnamese maths teachers and students in training young human resources for the knowledge-based economy
