TEACHERS’ TEACHING COMPETENCY AT HIGH SCHOOLS

Summary: 
The article analyzed the teaching competency of 1,184 teachers at 14 high schools in 7 provinces (cities) basing on Framework of teaching competency in teacher training program at University of Education, developed from standard Framework of teaching competency set by the Ministry of Education and Training. Teachers’ teaching competency reached at average level according to 5 scales. In particular, the competency components such as: designing lesson; organizing students’ learning activities, organizing and managing classroom during lessons, assessing learning outcomes and setting, managing and exploring students’ profiles were at high levels. Other competencies such as: designing and developing curriculum, compiling and developing educational material, integrated and differentiated teaching, teachers were somewhat limited. To improve teachers’ teaching competency, measures should be prioritized are: to strengthen professional activities at schools; to renew training at universities of education; to improve material infrastructure, teaching equipment and change management mechanism, increase autonomy in teaching and students’ education.
