Summary:
The purpose of citizenship education is to raise the learner’s awareness, social responsibilities and behaviours, helping them become global citizens who will be able to make their contribution to a global, equal, safe, tolerant and peacefull society. The nature of global citizenship education should be characterized with the followings: Protecting human values; Ensuring human rights, Ensuring the global and local dependence; Maintaining the diversity and identities; Ensuring democracy and dialogues; Developing socio-emotional skills. In order to implement citizenship education sucessfully, the education system should be changed so as educational institutions/schools and related educational organizations became learning communities with participation of learners, teachers, families, local authorities and social agencies...
