A RESEARCH OF GLOBAL CITIZENSHIP EDUCATION IN SOME ASIAN COUNTRIES

Summary: 
In the inevitable development of the 21st century, globalization is strongly impacting to all aspects of human life, in which education sector could not keep itself out of the way of the progress. In order to create positive changes, the basic characteristics of education system as well as its effects need to be determined. The article is a summary of the research results on global citizenship education in the general curriculum of three Asian countries (Korea,Thailand and Indonesia). In particular, the concept of “global citizens” and “global citizenship education” as well as the importance of these issues at the present stage are clarified by the author. The contents concerning to the global citizenship education and the purpose of global citizenship eduction of the three countries are also examined in this article. Based on the result of the curriculum analysis, a number of recommendations on global citizenship education in the context of Vietnam are given as lessons learned for the orientation of global citizenship education at general schools.
