THE SITUATIONS OF FUNCTIONAL VISUAL DEVELOPMENT FOR CHILDREN WITH LOW VISION

The article focuses on investigating the development of functional vision for children with low vision through a system of exercises at educational institutions for children with low vision in some provinces and cities of Vietnam. Using questionnaires for teachers and in-depth interviews with teachers and parents, the article identified the main issues, including: The awareness of administrators and teachers about the importance and necessity of developing functional vision for children with low vision through a system of exercises; Contents, measure, and organizational forms of functional visual development; Factors affecting the development of functional vision for children with low vision. The research results show that teachers have been well aware of the importance of developing functional vision for children with low vision, and have implemented this content in teaching, however, it is still integrated as the requirements for cognitive development and daily living. Some contents and forms of functional visual development for children with low vision have been used, but they are not specific to the development of functional vision support for children with low vision.
