Summary:
Homeschool - kid instruction at home- is a developed trend/model in advanced countries. This movement started in 1970s when John Holt – an education theorist- educational renewal supporter- argued that the focus on school education creates a child-enforcing environment. In spite of different names, its forms were that parents do not send their children to formal schools, their children learn at home. Parents will rely on their kids’ abilities, strengths and interests to design right curriculum to their individual child. This article addresses home schooling in three Asian countries: Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore with their advantages and disadvantages in homeschool, which contributes to enriching the overall picture of this educational method around the world.
