TEACHING METHODS OF ENGLISH SPEAKING SKILLS FOR STUDENTS AT ELECTRIC POWER UNIVERSITY

Summary: 
English speaking skills are one of the most important language skills, especially in the communication environment. Despite its importance, for many years, teaching speaking has been undervalued and English language teachers have continued to teach speaking just as a repetition of drills or memorization of dialogues. The world today requires that the goal of teaching speaking should improve students’ communicative skills, because, only in that way, students can express themselves and learn how to follow the social and cultural rules appropriate in each communicative circumstance. However, speaking skills of students in general and students of engineering and economic sectors of Electric Power University in particular and other universities in general are still very limited. In order to partly overcome these shortcomings, within the article, the author will explore the situation of teaching of lecturers and learning English speaking skills of students and give some suggestions on teaching methods of speaking skills to improve the quality of teaching English in universities.
