APPLYING VESTED MODEL IN TEACHING 10TH GRADE BIOLOGY IN HIGH SCHOOLS

Summary:

In order to comprehensively develop learners’ competences and virtue, it is necessary to improve teaching methods that help students build their competences. One of the most effective method recently applied in a number of developed countries (such as the United States, the United Kingdom, and German) and some international schools in Vietnam is the VESTED teaching model, which includes 6 steps: V - View, E - Experience, S - Speaking, T - Transform, E - Extend, D - Deliver. This model combines both active teaching methods and techniques to help learners connect scientific knowledge with real life situations, provides them the opportunity to experience while studying and develop their competencies. The content of 10th grade Biology covers the knowledge of Cell Biology and Microbiology, therefore it is appropriate to apply the VESTED model in teaching. This paper proposes the principles, the processes of desigining and organizing in teaching some units of the 10th grade Biology based on the VESTED model.
