EIGHTY YEARS OF THE DEVELOPMENT OF TEACHER EDUCATION IN VIETNAM FROM 1945 TO 2025

This paper examines the role and development of Vietnamese teacher education in training and fostering preschool and general education teachers from 1945 to 2025. Using a historical retrospective and document analysis, the study highlights key milestones: the Literacy Campaign as the starting point for eradicating illiteracy; the formation of the teacher education force during wartime; the standardization of the teaching workforce after reunification; and the more recent phases of international integration and technology adoption. Over time, the teaching workforce has been established and expanded, becoming the core force that ensures educational quality and drives the development of national education. Based on the review of 80 years of progress, the paper proposes policy recommendations to attract talent, improve teacher incentives, and support teachers in adapting to educational reform, international integration, and digital transformation.
