NGUYEN CONG TRU IN THE VIETNAMESE LINGUISTICS AND LITERATURE PROGRAM AT GENERAL EDUCATION LEVEL

Nguyen Cong Tru played an important position in literature of the early Nguyen Dynasty period, therefore in most of the volumes of Vietnamese historical iterary works, there is always a chapter on his poetry. Nguyen Cong Tru’s literary works have been included in the teaching curricula for junior high schools, senior high schools, and then for universities’ faculties of Vietnamese linguistics and literature. In the high school curriuculum alone, Nguyen Cong Tru is introduced to students as one of the most typical writers of medieval period literature. Currently, “Bai ca ngat nguong”, a work by Nguyen Cong Tru is included in Grade 11 Literature textbooks, both in the basic and advanced volumes. These books have been edited and introduced to the teaching program for a long time, however there are still some limitations to be clarified and adapted in the texts, commentaries, and suggested lesson plans for this work. This article examines carefully these concerned issues, and proposes some suggestions with the desire that Nguyen Cong Tru’s poetry will be compiled better in the Vietnamese linguistics and literature program in the near future.
