INNOVATING METHODS OF TRAINING TEACHING SKILLS FOR PEDAGOGICAL STUDENTS AT FOREIGN LANGUAGE UNIVERSITIES - HANOI NATIONAL UNIVERSITY

Preparing pre-service teachers with pedagogical competence, particularly effective instructional skills, plays an important role in teacher education. In the context of educational reforms, teacher educators need to research and apply a wide range of updated teacher training approaches, meeting the increasing demand of quality teaching. This paper outlines a research project on the training of pre-service teachers/student teachers’ instructional skills at the University of Languages and International Studies, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (ULIS - VNU). The author presents key issues of instructional skills, current training programs of pre-service teachers’ instructional skills as well as suggestions to improve quality of pre-service teacher education. The author also highlights micro-teaching as an effective approach in training pre-service teachers’ instructional skills at ULIS - VNU.
