TEACHING IN GRADE 1 WITH CONNECT - ORIENTATED CURRICULUM WITH THE 5-TO-6-YEAR-OLD KINGDERGARTEN ONE

One of basic perspectives of Vietnam’s new general curriculum is to ensure a close connection between classes and educational levels, linking preschool curriculum, vocational curriculum with higher education curriculum. Thus, the new grade 1 education requires a close connection with the preschool curriculum, on all aspects: goals, content, teaching methods and educational evaluation. By analyzing the the current grade 1 curriculum, we found that there are still limitations in linking this curriculum and preschool curriculum. For example, there is an overlap of knowledges and skills required in both grade 1 and K2, causing overload for early childhood education, or there are knowledges and skills required at K2 that are not suitable for this ages. The article analyzes the implementation process connecting the new Grade 1 curriculum and the preschool general curriculum by studying two specific cases: the connection of Grade 1 Math curriculum and current preschool curriculum (in term of getting student acquainted with Math); and connection of Grade 1 Natural and Social Science curriculum and current preschool curriculum (in terms of familiarizing students with surroundings).
