AN OVERVIEW OF RESEARCH ON EDUCATION FOR CHILDREN WITH VISUAL IMPAIRMENT AND MULTIPLE DISABILITIES IN THE WORLD AND IN VIETNAM

Summary: 
The purpose of this article is to overview the research on children with visual impairment and multiple disabilities, including the definition, proportions, causes, and difficulties in learning as well as in life. The studies about education for children with visual impairment and multiple disabilities also have shows that the essential areas of education should be taught for them, including: Communication, functional learning, independent living skills, visual skills, orientation and mobility, social skills, recreation, and functional vocation. Teaching strategies are primarily to strengthen social relationships as well as develop tactile skills, communication, and individualized meaning-centered approach. The article also provides an overview of educational content to support children at home for their parents and caregivers. At the same time, research on the education of children with visual impairment and multiple disabilities is also recommended to focus on research in the future within the context that children with visual impairment and multiple disabilities in Vietnam are not receiving appropriate support.
