CURRENT STATUS OF THE SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL COMPETENCE OF ADOLESCENTS

Summary: 
Social-Emotional Competence (SEC) is considered as the foundation for human health and success. It is especially important for adolescents because of the characteristics, a high demand for social relationships and the complex emotions of this age group. This paper presents the results of the study on the SEC status of 1250 students in grade 8 and 9 from eight junior secondary schools in 4 provinces, namely Ninh Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue and Tien Giang. The study has adapted and used the Social-Emotional Competence Questionnaire developed by Zhou and Ee (2012). The results show that the SocialEmotional Competence of adolescents is above average and uneven among its five elements, which provides useful information to the SEC program development for adolescents in the coming time.
