Summary:
Authentic assessment is a form of assessment that is researched and applied by some countries in educational practice in high schools. However, this form of assessment has not attracted enough attention to apply in teaching school subjects in general and Mathematics in particular. A survey of primary school teachers shows that the teachers have not yet conducted authentic assessment and one of the reasons is that they do not understand the nature of authentic assessment and do not have a design procedure for the authentic assessment in practice. The article presents some basic issues about the authentic assessment and proposes a process to design the authentic assessment in teaching Mathematics based on competency development for primary school students.
