Summary: 
Assessment is an important step in the teaching process. In order to perform well the assessment in high schools in the process of implementing the new General Education Program, students in pedagogical universities need to form and develop their competence in educational assessment, especially in assessing student learning outcomes. In this article, the authors analyzed the training program of eight pedagogical universities in Vietnam, focusing on analyzing the pedagogical knowledge block and the in-depth module on learning outcomes assessment in teaching Biology to identify opportunities of training students’ competence to assess students’ learning outcomes for students majoring in Biology Pedagogy. The results show that developing students’ competence to assess their learning outcomes for pedagogical students is integrated in the pedagogical professional modules. However, the most convenient method is training and developing in the intensive course on testing and evaluation; at the same time, the research results point out opportunities in terms of form, process, and content to train students’ competence to evaluate learning outcomes for students majoring in Biology Pedagogy.
