THE ROLE OF FAMILIES AND TEACHERS IN SUPPORTING STUDENTS IN THE ONLINE LEARNING PROCESS

Students’ attitudes towards learning play an important role in maximizing the potential of online learning when conventional face-to-face instruction is not possible. Parental emotional support is important for most attitudes and is strongly associated with student self-efficacy, specifically the forms of emotional support found to be most beneficial are when parents encourage their children to be confident, and when they support their children’s efforts and academic achievements. On the teacher’s side, an educational environment where teachers can convey enthusiasm for their teaching content will support the development of positive learning attitudes in students, namely ambitious learning goals and motivation to complete tasks, self-efficacy, and love to read. The importance of teachers’ enthusiasm as a motivating factor in student learning. It is required that the Government, the Ministry of Education and Training create favorable conditions for the effective participation of parents. If they are working, they may be allowed to take “paid leave”, supported by the State with 70% of their income. Providing information to parents about how to effectively support their child’s learning can also improve educational outcomes, both during online learning and during regular periods. Teachers also need support to quickly adapt their teaching practices to distance learning, whether routine or unexpected. Therefore, parents and teachers play a fundamental role in supporting students to develop these crucial attitudes, particularly in the current situation, targeted policy interventions should be designed with the aim of reducing the burden on parents and help teachers and schools make the most of digital learning in online learning.
