Summary:
This paper presents an approach to teaching the topic of three conic sections (ellipse, hyperbola, and parabola) in Grade 10 Mathematics with the aim of developing students’ mathematical thinking and reasoning competence, in alignment with the 2018 Mathematics General Education Curriculum of Vietnam. Based on a review of studies related to mathematical thinking and reasoning competence, an analysis of the curriculum requirements, and an examination of the content of the topic of three conic sections, the paper proposes three teaching measures: 1) Designing learning situations to develop students’ analytical, synthetic, and mathematical reasoning skills; 2) Designing learning situations to foster generalization; 3) Designing learning situations to foster specialization. These measures are illustrated through specific teaching situations within the topic of three conic sections and contribute to the development of students’ mathematical thinking and reasoning competence.
