Summary:
Based on the overview of writing teaching materials all over the world, the authors find that there are currently three main approaches of writing teaching methods for students, including product, process, and genre approach. Each method has its advantages and limitations in teaching writing to students. From the analysis results, the article proposes changes in teaching writing methods for students. When teaching writing texts, depending on each specific type of text, teachers can apply different methods or combine both process-based and genre-based writing methods for the same style of texts. Associated with the changes in methods of teaching writing, teachers also need to apply many other measures synchronously, such as integrating reading and writing, or adjusting tests and evaluations, etc. The synchronous coordination of various measures will contribute to the development of students’ creative writing ability, limiting the situation of copying sample texts.
