STUDENT ENGAGEMENT IN LEARNING: APPROACHES TO ITS ASSESSMENT

Summary: 
Educational studies increasingly emphasize the importance of student engagement in learning and its impact on academic retention, consistency and learning outcomes. The multidimensional nature of student engagement is the primary reason for the challenge of assessing this concept. Therefore, in order to effectively assess student engagement and understand its impact on the learning process, it is necessary to define the extent of student engagement in educational contexts and assessment approaches selected need to be aligned with the specific goals set. In addition, the multidimensional nature of student engagement in learning requires a holistic approach to assessment to reflect the interactive nature of cognitive, behavioral, emotional, and agentic aspects that constitute student engagement. Some approaches to assess student engagement in learning at two levels of assessment are mentioned in this article through the literature review of international studies
