Summary:
Traditional medicine plays a vital role in the healthcare system, contributing to the preservation and development of the nation’s medical heritage. However, scientific research needs to be given top priority in order to guarantee its long-term growth and successful clinical application. In spite of this, there was little student participation in scientific research in Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy’s Traditional Medicine program between 2019 and 2024. Research on its present state, obstacles, and possible approaches to encourage research among these students has not been thoroughly evaluated. This study aimed to assess its present situation, identify key obstacles, and propose solutions to enhance student participation in scientific research. A standardized questionnaire with a 5-point Likert scale was used to conduct a cross-sectional survey with 596 students studying traditional medicine. Over 70% of pupils showed a great interest in scientific study, according to the data. However, with mean scores ranging from 3.03 to 3.73, a number of issues were found at the individual and institutional levels. In order to overcome these obstacles, the study emphasizes the necessity of focused interventions. The findings offer a useful foundation for the creation of suitable and workable plans to encourage a more engaged and productive research culture among students studying Traditional Medicine in the near future.
