COMORBID ISSUES WITH LEARNING DISORDERS IN EARLY PRIMARY SCHOOL STUDENTS IN NAM DINH PROVINCE

Summary: 
The history of research on comorbid issues in children with learning disorders has highlighted significant manifestations of inattention and difficulties related to emotional-social skills. This study analyzed data from 39 first and second-grade students at high risk for learning disorders in Nam Dinh province to identify characteristics of attention and emotional-social skills. The analysis revealed that the most common signs of inattention included being easily distracted by sounds or other stimuli, and frequently making careless mistakes. Notably, teacher evaluations indicated a higher rate of risk for inattention in these students compared to parent reports. In addition, up to 30% of the high-risk group faced barriers related to emotional-social skills. These difficulties were also positively correlated with signs of inattention among the subjects. The overlap of symptoms across learning disorders, inattention, and poor emotional-social skills can create greater challenges for children in their learning process.
