Summary:
English speaking and pronunciation skills have been Vietnamese learners’ weakneses when it comes to learning this foreign language. The differences between Vietnamese and English pronunciation, learners’ communication anxiety and their not being exposed to authentic materials are among the reasons why many learners are still struggling with their oral performance despite having studied English for many years. English non-majors at the University of Engineering and Technology - Vietnam National University, Hanoi are not an exception. Shadowing technique, a useful technique in which language learners shadow or echo what native speakers speak as coincidentally and precisely as possible, was introduced to this group of subjects. Through the application of shadowing technique, the author would like to investigate the impact of this technique on the students’ English pronunciation. Finally, some recommendations are presented on how to guide students to practice this technique to improve their English speaking ability.
