HIGHER EDUCATION IN THE NEAR MODERN PARADIGM OF VIETNAM

Vietnamese higher education on the Western model has been developed since the the early 20th century. However, the modern higher education of Vietnam is considered as starting from the founding of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam in 1945, and developed through many stages according to national historical upheavals; from 1945 to the end of the resistance war against the French (1945 - 1954); from the time the country was divided into two regions until the reunification (1954 - 1975); and since the unification of the country in 1975 until now. At the beginning of the 21st century, the Western models of higher education hat have influenced Vietnamese education are all from the US higher education, therefore the higher education model that Vietnam is pursuing in the current context of international integration is the US higher education model. The higher education reforms over the past three decades have been implemented in that direction, but they have still some difficulties. To build an advanced and modern higher education for Vietnam, it is necessary to reform the system of higher education governance and management in order to achieve the desired goal.
