DESIGNING MATERIALS FOR SEX EDUCATION IN TEACHING NATURE AND SOCIETY SUBJECT AT PRIMARY SCHOOLS IN DISTRICT 1, HO CHI MINH CITY

Summary: 
Sex education at the primary stage has attracted a lot of attention from parents, schools, and society. According to the 2018 general education program, sex education has been implemented from grade 1. Therefore, it is required to design the materials which students can acquire the basic knowledge to meet the requirements of the program’s sex education. When implementing sex education for first - grade students under the program, teachers at primary schools in District 1, Ho Chi Minh City faced many difficulties due to the lack of appropriate teaching materials. This research has developed six principles and procedures for designing sex educational materials in three steps suitable for first - grade students. The material system includes videos, pictures, games, and learning cards with specific instructions for use. The test results of illustrated lesson plans in Nature and Society 1 with 50 teachers in District 1, Ho Chi Minh city show that the designed teaching materials ensure the appropriateness, flexibility and effectiveness, and at the same time students have many opportunities to develop their competences when these materials are used in teaching.
