The paper examines the use of rubrics in writing instruction across several countries, including the United States, Australia, and Canada, within the framework of OECD educational recommendations. Using analytical and synthetic methods, the study reviews a broad range of relevant scholarly works to identify common patterns and pedagogical insights. By examining international experiences with the benefits of rubrics, their implementation practices, and the challenges encountered in real-world contexts, the paper proposes a set of recommendations for the effective application of rubrics in teaching writing in Vietnamese Language and Literature, in accordance with Vietnam’s 2018 General Education Curriculum.
