GLOBAL CITIZENSHIP EDUCATION IN TEACHING CIVIC EDUCATION AT THE LOWER SECONDARY LEVEL IN VIETNAM IN THE CONTEXT OF DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION

Summary: 
In the context of increasing globalization and ongoing digital transformation, new demands are being placed on general education, including Civic Education at the lower secondary level. Global Citizenship Education has emerged as a critical orientation aimed at fostering students’ competencies for global integration, critical thinking, responsibility, and informed action in response to global issues. This orientation is closely aligned with the objectives and content of Civic Education at the lower secondary level. This study employs document analysis and synthesis, comparative methods, and an interdisciplinary approach to examine the theoretical foundations of Global Citizenship Education, international trends in the implementation of Global Citizenship Education, its integration into the teaching of Civic Education in Vietnam, and the opportunities and challenges arising in the context of digital transformation. Drawing on these analyses, the article proposes feasible solutions to enhance the effectiveness of implementing Global Citizenship Education in lower secondary schools.
