Summary:
This study proposes practical solutions to enhance classroom management effectiveness and develop self-study skills for elementary school students. The research was conducted at 12 schools in Thanh Phu District, Ben Tre Province, using a mixed-method approach, including quantitative surveys (120 teachers, 240 students), classroom observations (36 sessions), in-depth interviews, and analysis of learning products. The findings reveal several limitations, such as top-down classroom management, limited student involvement in rule-setting, a lack of diverse assessment methods, and weak self-study skills. Notably, only 15.65% of students achieved “good” or “excellent” levels in self-study skills, with self-assessment and information-searching skills being the weakest. Based on theoretical foundations and practical insights, the study proposes a comprehensive system of solutions at three levels: Building a positive learning environment, innovating teaching and assessment methods, providing specific skill guidance such as planning, self-assessment, information searching, and technology application. A three-month pilot implementation at three schools showed that the percentage of students reaching “good” or “excellent” levels in self-study skills increased to 26.4%, along with improved classroom management effectiveness. These solutions are feasible, practical, and contribute to improving education quality and enhancing self-study capabilities for elementary school students.
