DEPRESSION AMONG VISUALLY IMPAIRED STUDENTS AT NGUYEN DINH CHIEU SECONDARY SCHOOL, HANOI CITY

Summary: 
This study aims to depict the current scenario of depression and identify factors associated with depression in visually impaired students at Nguyen Dinh Chieu Secondary School in Hanoi city. The research involved a cross-sectional descriptive study of 81 visually impaired students. The findings revealed a confirmed depression rate of 21%, signs of depression in 22.2%, and an absence of depression in 56.8% of the participants. Manifestations of learning difficulties, low self-esteem, learning setbacks, and challenges in concentration and attention exhibited the highest average levels. Factors linked to depression in visually impaired students encompassed age, academic performance, feelings about peer relationships, and experiences of bullying at school. In conclusion, 21% of visually impaired students were identified with depression, and factors such as age, academic performance, feelings about peer relationships, and encounters with bullying influenced the risk of depression.
