Summary:
It is vital for educational institutions to train and equip students of English Language with an ability to use language in various social contexts in a dynamic and efficient way. This raises the need for a proper model of communicative competence feasible in the training program. This study, referring to available models of communicative competence in the world and considering the reality of Vietnam, recommends a model of communicative competence consisting of four components: Grammar competence, Discourse competence, Sociocultural competence, and ICT and Media competence. Hopefully, this suggested model can significantly contribute to forming and improving communicative competence of English Language majors, as well as meeting the outcome standards of university programs in the current period.
