FACTORS AFFECTING ENGLISH MAJORED TEACHER-TRAINEES’ DEVELOPMENT OF ENGLISH TEACHING COMPETENCY DURING TEACHING PRACTICUM

Summary: 
This paper aims at presenting the factors affecting teacher-trainees’ development of teaching competency during teaching practicum. This study involved 102 English majored teacher-trainees from a higher education in Ho Chi Minh City in answering a questionnaire, and 14 of whom took part in semi-structured interviews. The results showed that teacher-trainees’ development of teaching competency was influenced by the group of teachertrainees related factors the most, followed by that of supervisor related factors, notwithstanding the factor of teaching environment related factors neutrally affected teacher-trainees’ teaching competency development. Such findings could contribute to the improvement of teacher training as well as teaching practicum course at the research context and other similar ones
