Summary:
School violence causes significant psychological harm to primary school pupils, highlighting the need to strengthen counseling competencies among pre-service teachers. This study evaluates the effectiveness of a counseling skills training program for students majoring in Primary Education at Hung Vuong University, aimed at supporting pupils in coping with trauma caused by school violence. The program was implemented through experiential learning activities, including the establishment of a counseling skills club, the implementation of thematic counseling projects, and experiential activities at professional psychological counseling centers. The experiment was conducted with 120 students, divided into an experimental and a control group (60 students each). Counseling skills were assessed based on four criteria: identification of psychological trauma, emotional regulation, coping with trauma, and help-seeking behavior. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and independent-samples T-tests. The results showed that 68.3% of students in the experimental group achieved Good and Excellent levels, significantly higher than those in the control group (p < 0.05). The findings confirm the effectiveness of the training program and suggest integrating counseling skill development into the School Psychology Counseling course within primary teacher education programs.
