Summary:
Familiarizing preschoolers 5-6 years old with letters is crucial in developing their language skills to prepare to enter grade 1. Information technology-applied games to familiarize children with letters will be more attractive to them than traditional games. In the context of the 4.0 Industrial Revolution, games using information technology not only promote their comprehensive development and meet their needs for learning through play but also contribute to improving the professional competence of preschool teachers. This article analyzes some general theoretical issues and the current status of information technology applications in designing games for familiarizing preschoolers 5-6 years old with letters in several preschools in Ho Chi Minh City. Research results show that designing games to familiarize children with letters is necessary and should be considered one of the ways to ensure educational equity, contributing to the implementation of Children's Rights. However, there are still shortcomings in practice, application, selection, and design of games for children 5-6 years old to get acquainted with letters. Based on the survey results, the research designed various information technology-applicated games towards a specific step-by-step process with detailed instructions, making it easy for teachers to implement. Through these games, children can interact with each other and with technological means to become familiar with letters, such as matching pictures with letters, listening, and recognizing the sounds of letters, etc. It creates their motivation and confidence and stimulates their language development, building a solid foundation to prepare for learning to read and write in grade 1.
