Summary:
The issues of sexual abuse have been recently increasing in Vietnam, requiring the national education system to build up a suitable curriculum of sexuality education. Current researches on the sexuality education are usually focusing on teachers, whereas an investigation of students’ expectations and life skills related to reproductive health is important. The study was performed on a total of 876 students (at the age of 9 to 14) from 4 primary and secondary schools in Ninh Kieu district of Can Tho city. The result showed that female students are more interested in learning about sexuality knowledge and life skills than male students. Their interests are shown about 1 to 2 years earlier than males. In both male and female groups, training these skills is much concerned by the students compared to the theoretical contents. These results provide an important message to develop the content of sexuality education curriculum as well as life skills for students at primary and secondary level.
