THE CURRENT STATUS OF 5-6-YEAR-OLD CHILDREN’S PROBLEM-SOLVING COMPETENCY IN SCIENTIFIC EXPLORATION ACTIVITIES IN HO CHI MINH CITY

Summary: 
Problem-solving competency is an essential competency to help 5-6-year-old children adapt to new environments, especially grade 1 in primary school. In the Early Childhood Education Curriculum, scientific exploration activities aim to develop their activities, in which problem-solving competency is formed and developed in parallel with cognitive competency. Scientific exploration activities bring many opportunities to enhance preschoolers’ problem-solving competency. The article explores preschoolers’ problemsolving competency and its manifestation in scientific exploration activities. The article studies the current status of 5-6-year-old preschoolers’ problemsolving competency in some kindergartens in Ho Chi Minh City by using the method of observation, interviews, and inventory, thereby proposing several measures to improve their competence in scientific exploration activities.
