NEW CURRICULUM AND THE ISSUE OF STUDENT EDUCATIONAL TRACK IN GENERAL EDUCATION OF VIETNAM

Student educational track in education systems is an important issue that has significant influences to individual career and national human resource development. Although the policy on student educational track has been introduced for a long time in Vietnam, the actual implementation to date still has many shortcomings. It is still a difficult and burning issue that attracts the attention of public opinions. There are several reasons. The main reason is that career orientation education in high schools has not been effective. Therefore, one of the key tasks of the fundamental and comprehensive reform in education is to renovate the general education curriculum. The new curriculum must meet the requirements of ensuring the radical and comprehensive reform in quality and efficiency of the general education; combining teaching knowledge, personality education and career orientation. The article is an analysis of how the student educational track is addressed in the New Curriculum of Vietnam General Education. It provides an overview of the issue for school administrators and teachers. The understanding of student educational track hopefully would strengthen career orientation activities when new curriculum is implemented.
